Deep Cleanings

Also known as scaling and root planing

Gum disease is more common than most people realize — in fact, the CDC estimates that nearly half of American adults aged 30 and older have some form of periodontal (gum) disease. The good news is that when it's caught early, it's very treatable, and a deep cleaning is often the first step.

A deep cleaning goes further than a regular cleaning. When plaque and tartar build up below the gumline, they create pockets where bacteria thrive — leading to inflammation, bleeding, and, over time, bone and tooth loss if left untreated. Scaling and root planing carefully removes that buildup from beneath the gums and smooths the tooth roots, so your gums can heal and reattach the way they should.

Your comfort comes first throughout the process. We'll make sure the area is fully numb, work gently, and explain what we're doing along the way. Depending on your needs, we may treat one section of your mouth at a time to keep each visit comfortable and thorough.

Healthy gums are the foundation of a healthy mouth, and caring for them now helps protect your teeth for years to come. After your treatment, we'll talk through simple ways to keep your gums healthy at home and recommend a follow-up schedule that's right for you.
